report on Betwixed Charity Dance
What’s a good age to get an interest in dancing? How about thirty? Thirty weeks that is! That’s the age of the youngest at the Betwixt Charity Dance on 28th December 2016. She didn’t do any dancing but I think she must have liked David Last’s music. I know we all did. As usual all the 75 tickets were all sold out and we started dancing at 2 o’clock. There were forty one dances both traditional old time and some newer sequence ones. From Georgella Blues (1950) & Lilac Waltz (1951) up to Rivelin & Rockingham Rumba’s of 2016. There really was something for all tastes. The first old time waltz was the Lilac Waltz swiftly followed by the Waverly Two Step & Sindy Swing. Eventually we got to the interval and raffle. Fred’s ‘Chuck it in’ cake was greatly appreciated and the raffle was under way. There were several bottles and a wonderful wooden planter among a hoard of other goodies. Once the interval was over David set us off with the Lace Agate Swing and we ended with Chester, Wisconsin & Catherine Waltz’s and it was all over for another year. Fred announced that the dance had made a wonderful £540 to be given to “Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis” which is laughingly called ‘Alan’s Charity’ because I suffer from the condition along with Marina (from Wrexham) who couldn’t make it this time. It was a wonderful time with dancers from a wide area attending. Thanks Fred & Joyce - I now look forward to next year.
